Description
A French Empire style side table or guéridon featuring a circular top made of dark green variegated marble. The marble top is inset within a mahogany finished wood apron, which is decorated with three applied gilt metal mounts. Each mount consists of a classical Medusa mask flanked by scrolling foliate motifs. The table is supported by a tripod base with three out-swept legs. Each leg capital is carved and gilded in the form of a swan head with detailed feathering. The legs are connected by a concave Y-shaped stretcher and terminate in carved, gilded animal paw feet. 30″ H x 22″ diameter.
Condition report:
The table is in good condition with wear commensurate with age and use. The marble top shows light surface scratching but no cracks or major chips. The wood frame exhibits scattered minor scuffs and nicks. There is visible rubbing and loss to the gilt finish on the carved swan heads and paw feet. Gilt metal apron mounts remain secure. The structure is sound.
