Thousand Faces or Canton fan. Lacquer guards and sticks decorated with Chinoiserie scholars, hand painted leaf and lower portion with daily life scenes with inset faces, verso with floral decoration. In a mismatched lacquer box. Fan approximately 10"H x 18 1/2"W open. Lower hand painted portion torn at center pleat and repaired at right pleats, leaf with losses and creases at pleats, tears at pleats at top edge, losses to gilt decoration on top edge, repair to pleat at right of center vignette; scratches, chips and losses to lacquer on box, interior of box torn.
