The Dempsey Omnibus from the Ballantine Family Estate in Bernardsville-Crowndale. Carriage coach by "Carriage Builders" A. J. Demarest & Co. Established 1860, with a warehouses at Fifth Avenue, corner of 33rd Street, New York. Certificate number 34759, seat stamp number 24759, carriage circa 1875. Wood constructed carriage with closed body and roof. All windows banded in velvet with leather straps to lower window down into body of carriage. Metal step to rear door. Two side seat cushions in black tufted leather. Floor covering with carpet. Front open driver seat with front leather guard. Leather flap from driver seat to cover storage box. Two exterior flat mud guards, rear door monogram "V". Ten interior black cloth window shades on cord guides. Under carriage has spring suspension. Front wood spoke wheels 37" in diameter. Rear wheels 48" in diameter. Iron rims and hard rubber tires. Two brass kerosene lamps are missing. Carriage requires restoration. Carriage currently at the Newark Museum and would need to be picked up from the Newark Museum, Newark, NJ.
