The Gentleman's Collection
Lot 249:
Description
A hand-carved block meerschaum tobacco pipe featuring a figural bowl. The bowl is intricately worked into the form of a Native American chieftain’s head wearing a traditional horned and feathered headdress, with the bust integrated into a carved eagle head at the base. The shank is joined to a curved, translucent acrylic stem featuring a dark marbled tortoiseshell pattern. The carving displays high relief and fine detail throughout the feathers and facial features. A mark is present on the side of the shank near the stem connection, consisting of an impressed mark beginning with the letters J and B, followed by characters that are not clearly legible. The pipe is housed in a fitted rectangular hardshell case covered in blue velvet with a gold-tone metal latch and a blue satin-lined interior. 3 1/2" H x 8 1/2" L x 5" W.

Condition report:
The pipe appears in excellent, unsmoked condition with no visible charring to the bowl interior or teeth marks on the stem bit. The meerschaum body retains a uniform cream color. The original presentation case shows minor surface wear to the velvet exterior but remains structurally sound with a functional latch.
