Bookplates removed, notations in pencil on front pastedowns; endpapers, title and half title pages missing from volume 1, bindings loose; wear to corners, edges and spines, fraying to spines and corners, front boards partially detached, foxing throughout all, volume 1 back board detached, pages 311-312 missing from volume 1.

Provenance: Sotheby Parke Bernet, sale 3605, lot 609, 2/28 – 2/29, 1974; private collection, New York City; thence by descent.
