June Summer Estate Finds Auction
Lot 67:
A pair of JB Hirsch bronzed metal bookends of a classical Cellist, made in 1932 and signed by the artist J. Ruhl. Each Cellist bookend is identical, cast in metal with a dark brown/bronze finish with lighter colored ivorine/celluloid heads, and mounted to a rectangular black solid stone base. The backs are inscribed "19c32 – JBH – J. RUHL". Both are in good condition, one of the bookends was repaired and has a loose head. The J.B. Hirsch company made Art Deco metal bookends in the early 20th century that today are among the most valuable. Each measures 6.5" tall by 4" wide by 5.5" deep, and weigh 2.5 lbs. apiece.
