Louis Ledoux: Papua New Guinea Collection
Lot 96:
Typed on onion paper, unsigned, the letter appears to be from a missionary priest, possibly German, describing local life on Yuou Island.
Yuou Island is probably Yuo Island, also known as Guap Island, off the coast of Wewak, East Sepik Province, New Guinea. Although written in English, the sentence composition and some words such as "Mandat" indicate that the author’s first language may have been German.
Country: Papua New Guinea
