Shlomo Gabbai (Israeli) Brutalist wall sculpture. Israeli, Mid 20th Century. Wrought iron shaped into a cell door-like shape with circle and axe motifs, and three jagged blue, green, and amber chunks of Libyan desert glass hanging on chains in ascending order. Appears unsigned. Some wear to base, orange scuff on lowest rail, white scuffs to lower right vertical rail. 79" H x 46" L x 18" W Weights of desert glass on chains: Blue: 2 lbs, 5 oz. Green: 2 lbs, 12 oz. Amber: 7 lbs, 1 oz. Commissioned by the current owner and made for them by Gabbai in 1972. Gabbai’s wife’s uncle was David Palombo (Israeli, 1920-1966), a renowned Brutalist sculptor, and the two worked together in his workshop until Polombo’s death, after which Gabbai took it over.
