Handpainted ink on paper Japanese auspicious kakejiku or wall scroll, a Takasago. Depiction of an elderly couple under a ‘twin tucked tree’ with a single root. They represent the ideal martial couple. Also included is two red crowned cranes and two turtles. Takasago wall scrolls are displayed at weddings and at the exchange of betrothal gifts. Sight: 44"x 21". Scroll including knobs: 63" x 27 1/2". Wormholing to the top portion of the scroll, toning to paper. Signed and stamped lower right.
