HOT August Uncurated Estate Finds Auction
Lot 155:
19th century English tallboy chest of drawers. Mahogany, 8 drawers with brass drawer pulls and escutcheons, relief-carved edges on right and left of top. Lock plates marked "WARRANTED HANDMADE TWO LEVER COMYN CHING & C." Morant and Co. label on back of piece. Top middle drawer with label on inside stating "This piece of furniture was purchased at an auction at the Twombly estate in Madison, NJ in 1955. It is reputed to be of English origin circa 1840." Marks and losses of veneer on front bracket feet and bottom apron. Veneer losses to edges of top and middle bottom drawers, and to edges of highest drawers. Portion of front molding on top of bottom piece repaired. Splitting to veneer on right side of lower cabinet. Top left corner of Greek key molding repaired.
