With 12 page Smith, Elder & Co. advertisement catalog dated 1853 at the rear of volume I. London: Printed by Stewart and Murray, Old Bailey. Bound By Westleys & Co. Friar Street London label to rear pastedown of volume I. 5 1/4" x 8".
Wear along spines, spines torn and separated, shelf wear, fading to boards, boards bent at corners, volume III outside of spine partially detached, some foxing to pages, numerical labels and ink and pencil writing on pastedowns, bindings loose, endpaper missing from front of volume II, rear endpaper torn on volume I.
Provenance: Swann Galleries, 12/17/1970, sale 836 lot # 196; private collection New York City; thence by descent.
