George Eliot (Mary Ann Evans) (England, 1819-1880). The Mill on the Floss, in 3 volumes. First edition, 1860. Publisher William Blackwood and Sons, Edinburgh and London; printed by William Blackwood and Sons, Edinburgh. "I Am Ready" bookplate to front pastedown volume I. 16 page advertisement at the end of volume III.
Corners bumped, wear to spines and edges, fraying to spines volumes II and III, writing in ink on front endpapers, notations in pencil on front pastedown volume I, some foxing and discoloration to pages, top corner missing from front endpaper volume I, bindings loose, covers bent and dented at edges; receipt for repairs from Eudaldo Ginesta dated 1975.
Provenance: Ximenes Rare Book, New York, 10/12/1970; private collection, New York City; thence by descent.
