Two pairs of shoes from the Middle East. Includes a pair of filigree gilded silver ceremonial shoes made between the 16th and 17th centuries from the collection of V. and L. Benguiat and a pair of metal inlaid hardwood bath shoes likely of Ottoman, Syrian, or Anglo-Indian origin. The ceremonial shoes measure 11 1/2" in length and 4 1/2" in width. The gilding of these shoes is moderately worn away and much of the silver has been corroded. The leather sole has become brittle and and there is some tearing both here and on the filigree upper. As for the bath shoes, the knobs used to secure the feet are quite loose and there are areas where the inlay is lifting.
