American Classical breakfast table attributed to Anthony G. Quervelle (Philadelphia, 1789-1856). First quarter of the 19th century. Carved mahogany, fold over top, large bulbous acanthus form standard, carved paw feet with acanthus motifs. Provenance of table written in chalk on inner sides of apron: "Breakfast table made by Anthony G. Quervelle (1789-1856) Philadelphia. Table brought from Charleston, South Carolina by Mrs Gibson about 1942. Purchased by K. W. Dow from Mrs. Harry (Grace) Gibson- St. Augustine." Heavy wear, water damage, marks and scratches to folded and unfolded tops of table. Crack to veneer on back right corner on folded top. Chip and loss to wood on bottom right front corner of apron. Heavy losses, wear, splits and cracking to veneer on shaped base of table. Repairs to two carved paw feet and one acanthus carving. Large loss to wood on one carved foot. Chips, scuffs and nicks to wood throughout edges of table. Repairs to bottom molding on apron on left side of table. Repair to swivel mechanism of top of table, table top detached. Closed 49 7/8" W x 24 3/4" D x 29 1/8" H. Open 49 1/2" W x 49 7/8" D x 28 1/4" H. 97 lbs.
