2 French wallpaper panels after panels designed by Manufacture Arthur & Robert, depicting Ovid’s Metamorphoses. Hand painted panels on paper and cloth backing. Unsigned. "Apollon poursuivant Daphne, j’apres le tableau de Louis Michel Vanloo (1707-1771) (Musee de Louvre) / Un premier plan le Fleuve seine accueille sa fille" written in pencil on verso of one, "Orphee" written in pencil on the verso of the other. Each approximately 77" x 35". Both appear unfinished. Both with tears to paper, fraying to fabric backing, creases and cracking to paint throughout, staining and discoloration, paint loss throughout both. Provenance: Estate of Princess Maria "Mimi" Romanoff.
