African wood carved Aloalo funerary post, Sakalava, Mahafaly, Vezo, Madagascar. Mounted on later base and pedestal. 80"H including base and pedestal, figure 58 1/2"H. Figures at top loose and previously repaired, and with large cracks and splits, one partially detached from post; post with chips, splits, insect damage and other losses throughout. Provenance: Estate of Princess Maria "Mimi" Romanoff.
