Tony Walton (British, 1934-2022). The Wiz (film). Group of 8 costume and scenic design prints. A set of 6 costume design prints, from Tony Walton’s original artwork, including Cowardly Lion (Ted Ross), Tin Man (Nipsey Russell), The Wiz (Richard Pryor), Scarecrow (Michael Jackson), Dorothy (Diana Ross), Evillene The Wicked Witch of the West (Mabel King), all initialed TW in the plate, each sheet 24" x 18". 2 scenic design prints, Brooklyn Bridge Yellow Brick Road, larger 29 3/4" x 41". With a The Wiz one sheet poster, 41" x 27". Costume prints all with some wear, discoloration, waviness, creases and minor losses to corners; Yellow Brick road prints both with staining throughout, creases and tears to corners and creases and tears into margins; poster stored rolled and with creases and minor losses to corners and along edges. Created by Tony Walton for the film The Wiz, Universal, 1978. Tony Walton was the production designer and did the costumes for The Wiz, and was nominated for 2 Academy Awards in 1979 – Best Costume Design, and Best Art Direction – for his work on the film.
