Tony Walton (British, 1934-2022). Barnum. Group of original poster artwork, ephemera. Original poster artwork, mixed media with collage, ink, paint on acetate, initialed TW on the acetate lower right and with an envelope of cut-out lettering in gouache and pencil, 3 lettering sketches on tracing paper and 6 negative prints of figures. Original poster 22" x 14". With an envelope of 11 photos of the poster in various locations around New York City, 7 copies of the poster with white and silver backgrounds, one silver copy signed in ink by Tony Walton; a two page blow-up of a New York Times ad for the show, May 11, 1980; a Barnum mailer, 6 copies of the program, a folded copy of the poster and 2 programs for the London Palladium shows; and a copy of the soundtrack album, sleeve with inscriptions and signed by Jim Dale and Glenn Close in marker. All as is and in used condition. Created by Tony Walton for the Broadway production of Barnum, St. James Theatre, 1980-1982. Tony Walton did the artwork for the poster, Playbill and programs.
