Tony Walton (British, 1934-2022). The House of Blue Leaves. Set model. Mixed media with wood, acrylic, cardboard, metal and other materials. 33 3/4"L x 19 3/4"D x 23 3/8"H. As is and in production used condition, and with missing and loose pieces. Created by Tony Walton for The House of Blue Leaves, off-Broadway at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater at Lincoln Center, March 1986 and the Broadway production at the Vivian Beaumont Theater at Lincoln Center, April-October 1986 and the Plymouth Theatre, October 1986-March 1987. The Plymouth production was also filmed for a television broadcast on PBS’s American Playhouse. In 1986 Tony Walton won a Henry Hewes Design Award, a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Set Design, and a Tony Award for Best Scenic Design for his work on the show. The House of Blue Leaves was also nominated for a Tony for Best Play, and Swoosie Kurtz, John Mahoney and director Jerry Zaks all won Tony Awards for their work on the show.
