Tony Walton (British, 1934-2022). The Front Page. Group of 22 pieces of original scenic design artwork and reference photos. Including 15 pieces original production artwork, various mediums including gouache, cut paper, ink: Night Sky Drop (gouache with photograph), Hallway Wall (gouache with photographs), Balcony Ceiling, Gents Interior, Press Room Wall (3), Building Facade, Lobby Wall (gouache and photographs), Building Facade scrim (print with ink and crayon embellishments), Press Room / Gents, Deck Layout, Ceiling Layout, acetate scrim of building facade, crayon sketch of facade with attached photographs. With 6 sets of reference photos and a blue line print of the building facade. Most mounted on foamcore board or illustration board and with Tony Walton’s handwritten notations, some additionally initialed TW. Building Facade gouache 21 1/2" x 32 1/4" including mount. All as is and in production used condition. Created by Tony Walton for the Broadway production of The Front Page, Vivian Beaumont Theater, 1986-1987. In 1987 the show was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Revival and Tony Walton was nominated for Best Scenic Design; he was also nominated for a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Set Design.
