Tony Walton (British, 1934-2022). A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. Portfolio archive of sketches, handwritten and typed notes, copies and other papers related to the production. Folder containing a Forum ad printed in The New York Times and 4 additional copies of Peter de Seve’s illustration, folder containing 34 copies of photos of the white set model and 4 copies of Chase Frieze sketches, folder containing reference photos and notes for busts, folder of copies of Temple of Doom technical drawings, folder containing prop information including 2 original sketches on tracing paper, an envelope of prop and research photos, and four additional folders containing handwritten and typed notes and other communications including research, costume information, bids and other papers related to the production; and a Forum window card poster designed by Peter de Seve. Window card 22" x 14". All as is and in production used condition. Compiled by Tony Walton for the Broadway production of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, St. James Theatre, 1996-1998. This was the fifth time Tony Walton worked on Forum, having previously done the sets and costumes for the 1962 Broadway production, 1963 West End production, 1966 film, and 1986 West End production. In 1996 A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum was nominated for the Tony for Best Revival of a Musical, and Nathan Lane won the Best Actor in a Musical award.
