Tony Walton (British, 1934-2022). Steel Pier. Group of set design sketches, backdrops and other materials. 17 unused sea and sky backdrops, enlarged photos, some mounted. A folder containing reference sky photos and 2 pages of photocopied notes, and additional sky photos; a folder containing photocopied pages for wings research, folder containing 5 original sketches and many photocopied pages of sketches; 40 rough sketches of various set design elements, mostly pencil on tracing paper and with photocopies of the same images; blue line print of the lighting plot and a blue line section view print. Largest backdrop 23 3/4" x 27" including mount. All as is and in production used condition. Created by Tony Walton for the Broadway production of Steel Pier, Richard Rodgers Theatre, 1997. Tony Walton was nominated for Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle and Tony Awards for Scenic Design for the production.
