Description
Marcus Elieser Bloch (German, 1723-1799). Pair of hand-colored engravings on paper from Bloch’s 18th-century work, Allgemeine Naturgeschichte der Fische. Plate 154 (CLIV) depicting the Muraena Ophis, or Spotted Snake Eel and Plate 158 (CLVIII) depicting the Trichiurus Lepturus, or Swordfish. 8″ x 15″ sight size, 14 1/2″ x 21 1/2″ with frames.
Condition report:
Both engravings show overall paper toning and scattered foxing consistent with age. A notable cluster of brown foxing spots is located along the upper margin of the Muraena Ophis plate. The matching frames and mats show minor surface dust.
