Collection of 23 vintage folding pocket knives featuring various figural shapes, commemorative themes, and corporate advertising. The figural examples include two fish-shaped folders, a squirrel-form knife with a perforated blade, a crocodile, an Esso oil-drop character, a lighthouse, a detailed Eiffel Tower, and a Venetian gondola. Advertising and promotional pieces include an Alfa Everest multi-tool for an Italian typewriter and calculator company (Alfa Everest Macchine Per Scrivere E Da Calcolo) featuring a corkscrew and multiple blades; an Esso slide-action knife; Stock Vermouth and Stock Brandy pendant knives; a U.S. Royal Tires folder; a Besse-Eldridge Co. Dependable Clothiers (Manchester) advertising knife; and a Cafe Vinard (Paris) folder. Souvenir and historical items include a 1933 Chicago Century of Progress World’s Fair commemorative knife; a folder depicting the Statue of Liberty and New York City marked Made in Germany; and a promotional folder offering a fifty-cent discount on a man’s suit. A specialized folder by J. Nowill features handle scales with a table of times for the months of October through March. Handles are constructed from stamped metals including brass, aluminum, and nickel silver, with some examples featuring celluloid or imitation mother-of-pearl scales. Blades consist of both carbon steel and stainless steel. Largest knife 3 1/2" L (closed), 6 1/4" L (open).

Condition report:

Many pieces exhibit significant surface oxidation and pitting on the carbon steel blades. There is general age-related wear, tarnish, and minor loss to handle finishes across the lot. Some blades show evidence of sharpening wear.
