July Uncurated Estate Finds
Lot 388:
Description
Antique English softwood high-back settle bench. Composed of ten vertical planks set into a top and bottom rail, with the seat formed by two wide planks. The piece retains an older reddish-brown stained or painted surface. 52″ H x 65 1/2″ W x 15 1/2″ D.
Condition report:
The bench is in heavily worn, aged condition with slight wobbling. Significant finish loss is present on the seat and arms, exposing the bare wood. The seat planks exhibit visible splitting and separation. The reverse of the back panels shows multiple paint splatters and significant wood loss and decay along the bottom edge where it contacts the floor. General surface abrasions, scuffs, and a heavy patina consistent with long-term use are present.
