Description
This antique mechanical folding washstand features a split-hinged top that opens outward to form two side wings, revealing an interior well. The center of the well contains a scalloped copper basin and a pull-up rectangular mirror. The exterior is decorated with highly figured burl wood veneers framed by ebonized wood moldings. The piece is supported by four ebonized cabriole legs terminating in scrolled feet. A single full-width drawer is located beneath the wash compartment, featuring burl wood inlay to match the upper sections. Folded: 32.5″ H x 18.5″ W x 19″ D. Opened: 33.5″ W.
Condition report:
The washstand is in good antique condition. The drawer is missing its pull, with two mounting holes visible on the front. There is scattered chipping, nicks, and loss to the ebonized finish on the legs and moldings. Minor edge wear and small losses are present on the burl wood veneer, particularly along the lower front edge of the upper section. The copper basin exhibits significant patina, darkening, and areas of green verdigris. The mirror glass shows silvering loss and clouding consistent with age.
