Description
This lot consists of two silver plated biscuit boxes. The first is a folding shell form warmer by James Dixon and Sons, Sheffield. The piece features a triple shell design that opens on a central stand. The exterior is decorated with repousse fluting to resemble a scallop shell. The interior features a gilded finish with two pierced floral pattern hinged grills. The stand is cast with scrollwork and acanthus feet. The interior gilded surface is stamped with the number 5207 above manufacturer marks J, D, &, S, a bugle logo, E, and P. The second item is a cylindrical biscuit box by Thomas Bradbury and Sons with an attached underplate. The barrel features a lobed body decorated with engraved floral swags and medallions. It includes two lion mask ring handles and a hinged lid with a fluted finial. The unit is attached to a lobed underplate resting on four scrolled feet. The underside of the base is stamped with the number 64 above manufacturer marks T, a bird crest, C, P, and the number 0815. The interior of the lid is stamped PROTECTION around the handle assembly. 10 3/4 x 9 1/2 x 3 1/2 inches. Location: 11C
Condition report:
The folding shell warmer exhibits significant tarnish to the exterior plated surfaces. The interior gilding remains mostly intact with some surface scratches and minor wear. The cylindrical biscuit box is in poor to fair condition, showing heavy tarnish and significant plate loss (bleeding) where the underlying copper base metal is visible across the body and base.
