Description
This multi-color serigraph is executed on a ground of 22 karat gold leaf applied to a .925 sterling silver plate. The work depicts a historic street scene from the Roma Sparita (Vanished Rome) series titled Vecchie case in Via della Lungaretta, after the original watercolor by Italian artist Ettore Roesler Franz. The composition features a horse-drawn cart navigating a narrow cobblestone street between tall, aged buildings under a blue sky. The lower right corner of the plate contains an indistinct cursive signature and stamped Italian hallmarks, including a 925 fineness mark and a silversmith registration mark within a lozenge. The print is housed in a large, ornate gold-finished wooden frame with a dark brown velvet-covered mat. Plate: 5.75 x 3.75 inches. Frame: 13.5 x 11.5 inches. Location: Bin 333
Condition report:
The plate is in excellent condition with no visible oxidation, fading, or surface scratches to the gold or silver surfaces. The velvet matting is clean and free of significant dust or wear. The ornate frame exhibits minor surface scuffs and small losses to the gilt finish consistent with age and typical handling.
