Description
A Victorian majolica and cast metal mounted centerpiece jardiniere. The earthenware vessel features a boat-shaped form with a cobalt blue glazed exterior, decorated with molded rococo scrollwork in an ochre glaze. Two molded putti figures are seated on the rim. The interior of the bowl is finished in a mottled brown and tan glaze. The ceramic is supported by an ornate cast metal frame and base. The handles are formed as winged female caryatids with bodies transitioning into acanthus scrolls and lion masks. The frame rests on four scrolled feet with shell and foliate motifs. No maker marks are visible. 11″ H x 19″ W x 10″ D. Location: 3C
Condition report:
The ceramic glaze shows fine, uniform crazing throughout. The cast metal mounts exhibit a darkened patina and areas of surface oxidation consistent with age. There are no apparent chips, cracks, or repairs.
