Description
A set of fine porcelain tableware manufactured by the Pirkenhammer factory in Czechoslovakia and decorated in the Avignon pattern. The pieces feature a white porcelain ground decorated with an all-over gold lace or millefleurs transfer motif of delicate golden flowers and vines. Each item is finished with heavily gilded, scalloped rims. The lot includes a large footed soup tureen with a matching lid that features ornate gilded handles and a scrolled finial. Accompanying the tureen is its original matching white porcelain ladle. The set further contains a single place setting consisting of a dinner plate, a rimmed soup bowl, a salad plate, a bread and butter plate, a teacup, and a saucer. Each piece is marked on the underside with an underglaze green backstamp showing two crossed hammers beneath a crown, the text PIRKENHAMMER, Czechoslovakia, and the pattern name Avignon in script. Condition report:
The set is in very good to excellent vintage condition. The porcelain is bright and free of cracks, chips, or repairs. The heavy gold gilding remains largely intact, showing only very minor surface rubbing consistent with age. A single minute glaze pop or flea bite is visible on the gilded rim of one plate. The interior of the tureen is clean.
