Description
Thomas Sidney Moran (American, 1863-1930). Oil on board tonalist landscape painting titled Grand Pre. Signed Thomas Sidney Moran followed by an SP monogram and dated 06 in the lower right corner. It is housed in a simple gilt wood frame. The verso features an extensive handwritten presentation inscription in black ink from Theodore Sutro to the Hon. J.J. Little, dated April 1906, memorializing Sutro’s wife, Florence Edith Clinton. An additional orange paper label on the verso repeats the attribution and provenance. Board: 13.5 inches x 11 inches. Frame: 15 inches x 12 inches.

Condition report:
The painting shows a significant area of spider-web craquelure in the upper left quadrant of the sky. General surface dirt and a possible yellowing of the varnish layer are present, consistent with age. The board exhibits minor surface abrasions. The gilt frame shows minor chips, wear, and loss to the gilded finish.
