Lot 205:
Description
An antique or vintage wooden lift-style half-hull ship model. This piece is constructed using the traditional lift method, featuring multiple horizontal layers of wood glued and then carved to form the hull shape. The model represents a single side of a ship’s hull, a style typical of 19th and early 20th-century naval architectural design tools and decorative maritime folk art. The top deck surface is dark-stained and fitted with two rectangular metal blocks, possibly lead or iron, through which brown fabric lanyards or ties are threaded. The reverse side is flat and unfinished, retaining two metal brackets intended for wall mounting. 5″ H x 38″ L x 4.5″ D.
Location: 6D
Condition report:
The model is in fair to good condition with visible signs of age and wear. There is a notable area of wood loss and chipping at the top leading edge of the bow. The wood surface shows general scuffing, minor scratches, and age-related drying. The metal fittings on the deck show significant surface oxidation and corrosion consistent with age. The fabric ties are frayed and weathered. The reverse side has some dark staining and residue from previous mounting.
