Description
Utagawa Toyokuni III (Kunisada) (Japanese, 1786-1865). Woodblock, Hour of the Dragon. Part of the series titled Tosei Juni Toki no Uchi (Among the Twelve Hours of Today). Signed lower right above a red Toshidama seal. The series title and specific hour are inscribed in the upper right cartouche, and the courtesan’s name and house appear in a central red cartouche. Sheet size 13 1/8 x 9 5/8 inches.
Condition report:
The print exhibits a prominent center fold with associated staining and color loss. Significant water staining and old reinforcements are visible on the verso, with some staining visible on the recto. Scattered foxing and small brown spots are present across the paper surface. There are several small pinholes and minor paper losses along the margins. The print is unframed.
