Description
A Victorian burr walnut and marquetry inlaid bow-front credenza featuring a central solid cupboard door flanked by two curved-glass vitrine display sections. The piece is constructed with figured burr walnut and mahogany veneers, accented by extensive satinwood stringing and elaborate marquetry of classical swags, floral motifs, and a central decorative medallion on the cupboard door. The side vitrine cabinets are lined with a neutral-toned fabric and contain two wooden shelves each. The central cupboard opens to reveal a finished wooden interior with two additional shelves. The cabinet stands on four short turned bun feet and retains its original brass escutcheons and keys. The top surface follows the D-shape of the base with a molded edge. No maker labels or marks are visible. 40″ H x 60″ W x 17″ D.
Condition report:
The credenza is in good antique condition with wear consistent with age and use. Significant crazing and fine crackling to the varnish is visible on the top surface and front panels. There is notable finish loss, deep scuffing, and bruising along the lower base molding and on the turned bun feet. Scattered shallow scratches, minor dings, and small chips to the finish are present along the edges and corners. The bottom interior shelves show significant finish wear, dark staining, and some debris. The fabric lining shows light age-related toning.
