Lot 8:
Description
Two mid-20th-century oil on board paintings by the artist V. Dinovi. Both works are rendered in a decorative impressionistic style characterized by heavy impasto and textured palette knife application. The horizontal composition depicts a winter village scene with two figures in heavy clothing walking on a snow-covered path between rustic buildings. The vertical composition shows a mountain landscape with a calm lake in the foreground, flanked by evergreens and deciduous trees, with a snow-capped mountain peak in the distance. Both paintings are signed DiNovi in paint in the lower right corner. The winter village scene is housed in a distressed, worm-pitted wood frame with a burlap liner. The mountain landscape is set in a light wood frame with a scalloped edge and a linen liner. Winter village frame: 13.5 x 16 in. Mountain landscape frame: 16 x 14 in.
Location: Bin 4
Condition report:
The mountain landscape painting exhibits significant vertical craquelure throughout the sky region. Both paintings have a light accumulation of surface dust and minor grime. The fabric liners show light age-related toning. The frames exhibit minor incidental scuffing and wear consistent with age, with the distressing on the winter scene frame being intentional to the design.
