Description
Roger Kastel (American, 1931–2023). Plaque-mounted Time magazine cover from the June 23, 1975 issue, featuring the promotional artwork for the film Jaws. The piece consists of an offset lithographic magazine cover laminated onto a wooden plaque with a faux-wood grain finish and a gold-toned beveled inner border. Printed signature in the lower right corner reads Kastel. Kastel created the iconic original artwork used for the theatrical poster for Jaws, depicting a great white shark rising toward a swimmer and helping establish the film’s instantly recognizable visual identity. Frame: 13 3/4" H x 11" W x 3/4" D.
Condition report:
Laminated surface exhibits light handling marks and fine scattered scratches across the face. A small dark speck is located near the shark\'s snout. The gold-toned beveled edge of the plaque shows minor chipping and loss of finish at the corners and along the bottom edge. The wooden reverse shows typical light shelf wear and minor abrasions.
