Description
Collection of eight natural history specimens comprising various teeth from a Carcharodon carcharias, commonly known as the Great White shark. The assortment includes one primary large tooth and seven smaller specimens. The largest tooth features a broad, triangular blade with distinct, sharp serrations along the lateral edges and a robust, dense root structure. Several teeth in the group, including the largest, feature small circular perforations drilled through the root for potential use in jewelry or as pendants. The enamel displays a polished, creamy white appearance typical of well-preserved specimens. The root of the largest tooth is marked in green ink with the weight 3000 LBS. Largest: 2 1/2″ L x 1 3/4″ W x 1/4″ D.
From the personal collection of Peter Benchley (American, 1940–2006), acclaimed author of Jaws, accomplished diver, and prominent advocate for ocean and shark conservation.
Condition report:
The teeth are in good natural condition with well-preserved serrations and intact enamel. One tooth shows a natural vertical fissure on the blade face. Several specimens exhibit intentional drill holes in the roots. Handwritten ink notation is present on the reverse of the largest tooth root.
