The second object is a burnished grey and brown earthenware tripod vessel of globular form. The exterior is decorated with incised geometric patterns including chevrons and vertical bands. The top features a small circular orifice and three small pointed feet support the base. 1 7/8" x 1 7/8" and 2" x 1 1/2".
Pieces Peter bought over the years at auctions and antique shops because they intrigued him.

Proceeds from the Peter Benchley Collection will benefit five ocean conservation organizations: Peter Benchley Ocean Awards, WildAid, Beneath the Waves, Blue Frontier and Environmental Defense Fund.
Condition report:
The anthropomorphic vessel shows significant wear to the surface with heavy chips and irregular losses to the rim. There is generalized surface abrasion and loss of pigment throughout. The tripod vessel shows a large break and loss to one side and scattered mineral deposits. A circular area on the top shows evidence of an old label remnant or filled repair.
