Description

Arts and Crafts style writing desk and separate trifold mirror constructed from quartersawn oak with a medium brown finish. The desk features a rectangular top with a low splashback, flanked by slightly raised side galleries. A single wide drawer is centered on the apron, decorated with an applied “X” brace motif and exposed tenon joinery at the leg joints. The drawer is constructed with machine-cut dovetails and features a dark-patinated hammered metal swing handle on the right side. The piece is supported by four square legs joined by H-stretchers and set on metal casters. The associated trifold mirror consists of a central arched panel flanked by two hinged side panels, all set within matching oak frames and fitted with a hanging wire on the verso. The interior of the drawer reveals a lighter secondary wood and a significant dark stain. No manufacturer labels are present.

Condition report:

The desk top exhibits a prominent dark circular water ring and several scattered dark spots and surface scratches. The left-hand drawer pull is missing, leaving visible mounting holes and a shadow mark on the wood surface. The interior bottom of the drawer has a large, irregular dark ink or liquid stain. General wear and scuffing are visible along the finish edges, splashback, and mirror frames. The drawer dovetails show minor separation and evidence of older glue residue.
