The Gentleman's Collection
Lot 9:
Description
A handcrafted decorative sculpture of a king cobra in a striking pose with an expanded hood and exposed fangs. The piece is constructed from a solid wood core, visible at the underside, which has been built up with paper mache. The exterior is finished in a decorative scheme of marbled paper featuring elaborate feathered or cockshell patterns in shades of ochre, black, and pale yellow. The entire surface is treated with a high-gloss clear lacquer. The fangs are fashioned from a rigid material and finished in a gold tone. The flat wooden underside reveals a natural grain and a small knot in the timber. Unsigned. 14" H x 13" W x 9" D.

Condition report:
The sculpture is in good condition with no visible chips or losses to the paper decoration. The high-gloss finish exhibits minor surface irregularities and a visible seam where the paper mache meets the wooden base, both of which are consistent with the handcrafted manufacturing process. The wood base is structurally sound.
