David Davidovich Burliuk (Russian/American, 1882-1967). Oil on burlap laid down on board portrait of a fisherman Bonin, Japan 1920. Signed Burliuk and dated lower left and signed in Cryrillic lower right. 23" x 18 1/2" (overall with frame 30" x 25 1/2"). With remnants of a gallery label, exhibition label from The Parrish Art Museum circa 1978, partial Japanese label, and David Burlyuck Artist. Poet. Moskow. Yokohama Nakamura-cho. 38 business card with hand written notations all on verso. Crazing throughout, burlap appears to be lifting from board in some sections. From the collection of Long Island, New York art dealer and collector Ella Jaffe Freidus, who was a close personal friend of David Burliuk
