Binding loose, foxing, fraying to spine at top and bottom, corners bumped and fraying, front board detaching at spine, inscription in pencil dated 1898 front endpaper.

The Well-Beloved. A Sketch of a Temperament. First edition, 1897. Osgood, McIlvaine and Co., London; printed by Ballantyne, Hanson & Co., Edinburgh and London. Half title page Thomas Hardy’s Works, The Wessex Novels Volume XVII. Binding loose, corners bumped and fraying, some fraying to top of spine, some separation at front pastedown, wear to boards, some foxing, notations in pencil front endpaper.
