2 studies, possibly by Gregorio Prestopino for the film adaptation of Finian’s Rainbow. Both mixed media including gouache, pastel and ink. Both unsigned, with numbers 102 and 103 written in pencil on verso. Each sheet 18 7/8" x 24 3/4". Both stored rolled, with tears and creases to corners and edges. Both with pinholes to corners.

Gregorio Prestopino was hired as an art director for Michael Shore and John Hubley’s animated adaptation of the musical Finian’s Rainbow. Maurice Binder was brought on to help raise funds for the film. Hubley began work on Finian’s Rainbow in 1953, but the film was never made. Production was stopped in 1955 when the project lost its funding, due in part to Hubley’s refusal to testify before the House Committee on Un-American Activities.

Provenance: From the estate of Maurice Binder. Born in 1918, Maurice Binder was an American film title designer, best known for his work on 14 James Bond films, including Dr. No. He died in 1991 at the age of 72.

Condition: Notice to bidders: The absence of a condition report does not imply that the lot is in perfect condition. Photos are considered part of the condition report. All lots are offered and sold "as is", and Willow Auctions will not provide refunds based on condition. Timepiece movements, lighting and electrics have not been tested, and art has not been examined out of the frame unless otherwise stated.
