Description
Hard-sided leather briefcase featuring the monogram P.B.B. for author Peter Benchley. The interior lid contains a four-compartment accordion-style file folder, which is secured by two leather straps with snap closures. The exterior is fitted with brass-toned metal locking latches, hinges, and handle mounts. Stamped with the initials P.B.B. on the top and marked Crest Lock Co. Inc. on the latches, with an adhesive Bermuda Customs Inspected label on the exterior. 11 3/4" H x 17 3/8" W x 4" D.
From the personal collection of Peter Benchley (American, 1940–2006), acclaimed author of Jaws, accomplished diver, and prominent advocate for ocean and shark conservation.
Condition report:
Heavily worn condition. The leather exterior shows extensive scuffing, deep scratching, and surface abrasion throughout. Corners are severely worn with the underlying frame material exposed. The handle leather is cracked and darkened from use. Brass-toned hardware exhibits significant tarnish, oxidation, and loss of finish. The interior shows age-related wear and light staining, with the lining in the lid beginning to peel at one corner.
