Description
A pair of Italian wall-mounted brackets or consoles featuring a Rococo-inspired grapevine motif. Each bracket is designed with a serpentine-edged shelf supported by a base modeled as gnarled tree branches, embellished with clusters of grapes and broad leaves. The pieces are finished in a burnished gold gilt with dark antiquing in the recesses to highlight the sculptural details. The back edge of each shelf is marked with the incised characters MADE IN ITALY and a stamped model number 1089. Triangular metal hanging brackets are inset into the reverse for wall mounting. 15 1/2″ H x 16 1/2″ W. This lot is located offsite in Rumson, New Jersey and will be available for PICKUP ONLY. Specific pickup instructions including the address and available pickup dates and times will be provided shortly after the auction.
Condition report:
The consoles exhibit age-appropriate wear, including scattered losses and rubbing to the gilded surface. Wear is most prominent along the top edges, the shelf surfaces, and the high points of the grape clusters.
