Description
A one-piece demilune cabinet in the Louis XVI style, manufactured by The Leonardo Co., Inc., New York. The cabinet features mahogany construction with mixed wood parquetry and floral marquetry inlays, surmounted by a thick, D-shaped mottled pink and beige marble top. The central compartment contains three graduated, curved-front pull-out trays behind a pair of doors. Flanking the center are two side cupboards, each with a single shelf. The upper frieze includes two swing-out drawers located on the rounded corners. Gilt-metal mounts decorate the exterior, including laurel-wreath ring pulls, foliate-and-husk swags on fluted pilasters, a central scrolled apron mount, and foliate sabots on the feet. A metal manufacturer plate is present inside a drawer. The back frame is incised with the number 384. 36″ H x 52″ W x 23″ D.
Condition report:
One side cupboard is stuck closed with a broken lock and cannot be opened with the provided key. The swing-out drawers are faulty and may need to have the internal springs repaired. The marble top displays multiple significant white scratches, gouges, and abrasions across the center and left side. There is notable chipping and loss to the wood veneer on the vertical edges and corners of the upper swing-out drawers. The central doors show wood loss and damage surrounding the keyholes, and the escutcheons are missing. The legs exhibit substantial wear, scuffing, and finish loss, particularly around the metal mounts. Minor surface scratches and age-appropriate finish wear are present throughout the body. The gilt-metal hardware shows tarnish and some oxidation.
