Sold for: $90
Description
American redware storage jar. The vessel features an ovoid body tapering to a slightly recessed base with a wide mouth and short collar rim. Two small, horizontally applied loop handles are positioned at the shoulder. Finished in a reddish-brown lead glaze, the jar is decorated with vertical manganese splotches extending downward from the shoulder. Horizontal incised lines encircle the neck and upper portion of the body. Unsigned. The unglazed underside displays handwritten characters in dark pencil and adhesive residue from a previous label. Three yellow felt pads are attached to the base.
Location: 14E
Condition report:
Small chips are present along the upper and outer edges of the rim. The glaze displays overall fine crazing, minor surface pitting, and scattered kiln-firing glaze pops. A horizontal hairline crack is visible on the lower body just above the base. The unglazed base shows typical darkening and wear from use.
