Description
Group of three Japanese woodblock prints. The collection consists of three distinct compositions: one vertical narrative scene, one horizontal multi-figure scene, and one small-format bust portrait. The vertical print depicts a dynamic struggle between three figures, featuring a woman in an ornate blue floral kimono and two men in combat; it is signed Toyokuni ga within a red cartouche on the right and bears the characters for Sarashina at the bottom margin. The horizontal print portrays a scene centered around a palanquin with several attendants and stylized small red figures appearing to leap or float in the air; it includes extensive Japanese text in multiple red cartouches and a circular black seal. The third item is a small-format portrait of a male kabuki actor in a patterned blue robe. Largest print 9 3/4 x 7 3/8 inches. Location: 14C
Condition report:
The prints show age-related wear throughout, including minor surface soiling, light toning, and creasing. The vertical narrative print features a series of small circular holes along the left margin, indicating prior placement in a bound album. The horizontal print exhibits minor fraying and wear at the edges. Colors show some degree of fading consistent with age.
