Tony Walton (British, 1934-2022). All That Jazz (film). Original poster artwork for the fictional production Paradise Avenue, "directed and choreographed" by the film’s main character, Joe Gideon (Roy Scheider). Mixed media with acrylic, gouache, ink and pencil on illustration board, 22" x 28"; and a hand painted lettering overlay on acetate. With 2 window cards of the final poster. All as is and in production used condition; large sections of paint loss through both figures. Created by Tony Walton for the film All That Jazz, Columbia Pictures, 1979. A loosely autobiographical story based on the film’s writer / director Bob Fosse, All That Jazz was nominated for multiple Academy Awards in 1979, including Best Picture, Best Director (Fosse), Best Actor (Scheider) and Best Screenplay (Fosse & Robert Alan Aurthur). Tony Walton (along with Philip Rosenberg, Edward Stewart and Gary Brink) won the Academy Award for Best Art Direction. Fosse’s work on All That Jazz also won him the Palme d’Or at Cannes in 1980. Walton’s official credit on the film is Fantasy Designer.
