Tony Walton (British, 1934-2022). A Day in Hollywood / A Night in the Ukraine. Group of original set design artwork, with research and reference materials. 17 pieces original artwork for various set elements, multiple mediums including gouache, ink, printed paper and photos, collage, many with Tony Walton’s handwritten notations, Simplified Corridors 15" x 22" including mount. With 21 sketches in ink, pencil and red pencil, most on tracing paper; lighting plots, 2 copies of the French’s Musical library edition of the play, 2 programs, songbook, certificate for Tony Walton’s Drama-Logue Critic’s Award from 1980, and a group of prints and research and reference materials including photographs of Grauman’s Chinese Theatre. All as is and in production used condition. All created and compiled by Tony Walton for the Broadway production of A Day in Hollywood / A Night in the Ukraine, John Golden Theatre, 1980-81. Tony Walton was nominated for the Tony Award for Scenic Design in 1980. The show was also nominated for Best Musical and director and choreographer Tommy Tune won the Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle awards for his work on the production.
